Kentucky bluegrass is an important cool season turfgrass species. However, heat and drought tolerance is an issue. Interspecific hybridization with a related species, Texas bluegrass is an approach used to improve heat and drought tolerance.

Drought is one of the main environmental disturbances limiting the growth and production of turfgrass in China and around the world....The relative water content (RWC), proline (Pro) content, and other physiological and ecological variables of three turfgrass monocultures and their three ratio mixtures (a total of six different treatments) were measured under drought as well as dust stress at various time points....Additionally, during the 21 days of drought stress, as time increased, the appearance quality (TQ) of the turfgrass gradually declined over time; its RWC gradually decreased; its chlorophyll (Chl) content, peroxidase (POD) activity, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity all showed a trend of initially...A comprehensive evaluation of physiological and ecological variables, using the membership function method, showed that the six types of turfgrass treatments ranked as follows (from strongest to weakest) in drought resistance: 2:6:2 mix > Festuca elata monoculture > 2:3:5 mix > 2:2:6 mix > Lolium perenne

Streptomyces bacillaris S8 was isolated from turfgrass rhizosphere, and Streptomyces globisporus SP6C4 was obtained from strawberry pollen. Both strains showed excellent antifungal and antibacterial activities and suppressed various plant diseases in vitro.

Twenty-eight strains (primarily Pseudomonas and Bacillus spp.) showed > 50% GIR, and 11 of these strains effectively suppressed LT586 without causing turfgrass phytotoxicity....Conclusion: This study provides a theoretical foundation for future investigations into the use of Bacillus cereus B694 as a potential biocontrol agent for DS in turfgrass disease management. © 2025 Society of Chemical Industry.

Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is a cool-season forage and turfgrass widely cultivated in warm and subtropical regions worldwide due to its ease of cultivation, resilience, and low maintenance costs. However, high temperatures severely impact its growth.

In 2017, we sampled a previous 3-year study conducted in Madison, WI, on turfgrass treated with either 0, 4.9, and 29.3 kg N/ha/yr. Dollar spot was assessed every two weeks during the study period, and microbiome samples were collected from each plot at 6 different time points during 2017.

This indicated that root endophytes could help turfgrass to tolerate foot traffic via controls on the concentration of nitric oxide, the signaling molecule for root growth, and mannosylglycerate, the compatible solute for protecting enzymes against osmotic stress....Foot traffic also enhanced degradation pathways of carbohydrates and 4-coumarate, the constituent of turfgrass cell walls (PWY-3801, PWY-2221, PWY-7046), indicating the faster turnover of root tissues.

By contrast, the current study evaluated whether Chlorella supernatant could protect turfgrass (Agrostis stolonifera), a monocot plant widely used as a turfgrass, against dollar spot disease caused by the fungal pathogen Clarireedia jacksonii (formerly Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) under greenhouse and field...ABC001 and HS2 cultures reduced the incidence of dollar spot disease in turfgrass under both greenhouse and field conditions without directly inhibiting growth. The effects of supernatant application on the rhizosphere microbiome were investigated using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing....Application of ABC001 and HS2 supernatants modulated the structure of the rhizosphere microbiome and enriched specific microbial taxa that improved turfgrass health in the presence of C. jacksonii.

Zoysiagrass stands out as a crucial native turfgrass due to its exceptional abiotic stress tolerance, extensive adaptability, and high ornamental value....The first chromosome-scale genome of Zoysia japonica 'Compadre' provides a critical genetic resource for cold-tolerant turfgrass breeding through identifying stress-responsive candidate genes....have successfully established a cell nucleus extraction and library construction protocol tailored for zoysiagrass ATAC-seq technology, and a total of 80 low temperature tolerance candidate genes were preliminarily identified via ATAC-seq and RNA-seq profiling, thereby initiating the exploration of turfgrass

Differences were attributed to physical watershed features such as geology, soils, and channel geomorphology, as well as urban sources such as turfgrass fertilization and septic infrastructure.
