To gain deep insights into the influence of expanding oyster culture on the sedimentary carbon cycle, surface sediments were collected from the Maowei Sea, which is the largest oyster farming bay in south China, based on six filed surveys between July 2010 and December 2022.

The spatial-temporal distributions of various nitrogen (N) species in surface sediments were examined in a typical subtropical mariculture bay (Maowei Sea) in the northern Beibu Gulf to assess the impact of intensive oyster culture activities on sedimentary N speciation.

Vibriosis is the most commonly encountered disease associated with intensive oyster culture in hatcheries and nurseries. Vibrio alginolyticus and Bacillus hwajinpoensis were the two strains with pathogenic and probiotic effects, respectively, identified during the Pacific oyster larvae production.

The results showed that oyster culture enhanced the bioavailability of phosphorus in sediments. The free organic phosphorus was reduced significantly, whereas the free inorganic phosphorus and iron-bound phosphorus greatly increased in the oyster culture area (P ≤ 0.05)....Moreover, the results of Geochip showed that the oyster culture reshaped the microbial network structure in sediments, with typical phosphate-solubilizing and phosphorus-accumulating microbes being enriched by 17.76% and 10.60%....This work suggested that oyster culture can greatly improve the microbial phosphorus metabolism and provided insights into the environmental recovery and reconstruction from marine aquaculture activities.

Varying culture methods are commonly used for eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, aquaculture in the Northeast United States. Vibrio vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus, two human pathogenic bacteria species, accumulate in this edible, fi...

In order to better interpret this problem, we sampled sediment cores from representative oyster culture areas and uncultured areas in Shenzhen Bay.

The oyster culture has the incrusting organism as problem for production, in this context, it evaluated as biological control against incrusting organism and sediments the introduction of gastropod Tegula atra (Lesson, 1830) in Chilean oysters (Triostrea chilensis Phillippi, 1844) cultures in conditions

Before the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the over-deployment of oyster culture facilities polluted the bottom environment and formed an hypoxic bottom water layer due to the organic excrements from cultured oysters....We mapped the oyster culture rafts and seagrass meadows in Nagatsura-ura Lagoon, Sanriku Coast before and after the tsunami and monitored those and environments after the tsunami by field surveys....We used high-resolution satellite remote sensing images to map oyster culture rafts and seagrass meadows at irregular time intervals from 2006 to 2019 in order to assess their distribution....Experienced local fishermen also developed a method to attach less ropes to a raft, which was applied to half of the oyster culture rafts to improve oyster growth. The area of seagrass meadows has been expanding since 2013....These changes brought the expansion of seagrass meadows and reduction of mass mortality events to allow sustainable oyster culture in the lagoon.
