Considering safety profile, treatment was well tolerated, as the most frequently reported adverse event was autoimmune thyroiditis (two TS girls, 10%); no hyperglycemia occurred throughout the treatment, whereas one TS girl (5%) and one GHD girl (5%) experience transient hypertransaminasemia and hypercholesterolemia

Based on the fact that the patient discontinued long-term therapy with prednisone approximately 2 weeks before he was found to have elevated transaminase levels and the observation that his cortisol was lower than the normal value, he was diagnosed as having hypertransaminasemia secondary to adrenal

This often manifests as isolated hypertransaminasemia or hepatic steatosis (HS)....The aim of this study was to define the prevalence of hypertransaminasemia and HS in a pediatric population with CD before starting a gluten-free diet (GFD) and to analyze how the introduction of a GFD could modify this condition....Results: A total of 160 patients (65.0% females, median age 6.4 (0.8-13.2) years) were included; hypertransaminasemia and HS prevalences at diagnosis were 8.1% and 6.1%, respectively....Subjects with hypertransaminasemia were younger (p = 0.01) than those without and had higher frequencies of HS (p = 0.034) and anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTg) immunoglobulin (Ig)G positivity (p = 0.046)....Subjects with HS were younger (p = 0.0001) and had a higher frequency of hypertransaminasemia (p = 0.029) compared to non-steatotic ones. After 12 months of a GFD, hypertransaminasemia and HS persisted in 53.8% and 50.0% of patients, respectively.

Clinical and laboratory assessments, including liver biopsy, were performed on a 4.2-year-old boy presenting with hypertransaminasemia and mild hepatomegaly. Histological evaluation revealed chronic hepatitis with fibrosis and severe steatosis, indicating long-standing active disease.

Methods: Prospective observational study over a period of 28months (February 2021-May 2023) of all patients with a request for a liver biochemical profile in whom hypertransaminasemia was detected and who met the inclusion criteria for early detection of viral hepatitis.

The most common CD-associated disorder was osteopenia (59.9%), predominant in females (64.3%); extraintestinal manifestations included anemia (35.8% iron-deficiency; 87% folic acid malabsorption), cryptogenic hypertransaminasemia (27.9%), and recurrent miscarriages (11.5%).
