This study was designed to determine the care burden, health anxiety and depression levels of caregivers of patients with oncological surgery and the relationship between these variables....The caregivers had moderate and severe levels of caregiver burden (51.79 ± 13.53), depression (17.27 ± 9.58), and health anxiety (26.44 ± 8.93). There was a statistically significant positive weak relationship between the caregivers' health anxiety caregiver burden and depression levels.

Participants with elevated health anxiety (N = 106) were recruited from across the United States and randomized to receive one of two 1-month text message interventions, which included reminders to avoid use of health-related safety behaviors (SB) or to focus on the present (PC)....However, health anxiety decreased significantly in the PC group but not in the SB group. Maladaptive illness attitudes also decreased significantly (and similarly) in both groups....A cross-lag panel analysis did show that less safety behavior use predicted lower health anxiety and lower negative attitudes about illness at the next assessment. However, negative attitudes about illness, but not health anxiety, predicted less safety behavior use at the next assessment.

This research examined the relation between health anxiety and death anxiety. The mediating role of cyberchondria and the moderating role of social aspirations were also explored. The sample included 405 participants, 67% women, between 18 and 38 years old (Mage = 21.12, SD = 3.32)....Two dimensions of health anxiety (the likelihood of an illness and severity of an illness) had a significant positive relation with death anxiety. Cyberchondria had a positive relation with death anxiety, while motivation for a high social class had a non-significant relation with death anxiety....Further, cyberchondria mediated the relation between health anxiety and death anxiety. Moreover, when motivation for social class was high, high body vigilance was associated with a low level of death anxiety....The implications of the obtained results for the relief of death anxiety, when the participants present health anxiety and cyberchondria, are discussed, taking into account the level of social aspirations.

With the widespread use of the internet, persistent concerns about health may manifest as cyberchondria in this age group. Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of students' characteristics (e.g., sex, student's grade level) and their cyberchondria levels on their health anxiety levels.Methods...Regression analysis results indicated that sex (β = -0.222), doing research on the internet very frequently (β = 0.175), and Cyberchondria Severity Scale total scores (β = 0.428) significantly predicted health anxiety scores, respectively (F(3.324) = 47.732, p < 0.001)....Together, all three significant variables explain 31% of the variance. Conclusions: There was a positive and weak to moderate correlation between students' health anxiety levels and cyberchondria levels, and their health anxiety levels increased with an increase in their cyberchondria levels.

Conclusions: Defining health anxiety and pathological illness anxiety among the DSM-5 criteria as distinct diagnoses from SSD may increase the functional usefulness of DSM-5 in patients with fibromyalgia.

The diagnosis most strongly associated with the severity of somatic distress and health anxiety was the DSM-IV USD and DSM-5 SSD, respectively. MDD, GAD, panic disorder, and adjustment disorder had significant associations with various psychopathologies and QOL.
